Engineering Day

This past weekend I volunteered at the Ocala Discovery Science Center. One of the things they had me do was to give a presentation, tothe kids who participated, about 3D printing.
I brought my Makerbot and prepared a short, yet informative presentation about 3D printing and about how it will effect their futures. It was really fun to see all of the kids crowded around the table being completely mesmerized by a whistle being formed in front of their eyes. The entire experience was very rewarding and I was, to be honest, surprised at how intelligent the questions these ten and eleven year olds had asked me. Some of the other activities were: making popsicle stick bridges, compressed air rockets, lego’s, tower building out of newspapers, and an egg drop competition that where the kids tried to protect a raw egg from being launched by a catapult. I operated the catapult since I designed and built it about a half a year ago. It was originally meant to shoot pumpkins. It was a great experience and if you live in the Ocala area, I hope to see you next year.
